Cadillac STS V

The STS-V is more dynamic version of the range.

In the heart of the STS-V is a version of the Northstar engine 4.4 liters equipped with a positive displacement intercooled. The Northstar V8 SC engine (supercharged) producing 350 kW (476 hp) at 6400 rpm and operates at a maximum of 6700 rpm. The engine generates 111 kW (151 hp) more than its naturally aspirated counterpart. The success of these 100 hp per liter Northstar V8 that makes SC one of the more powerful V8 engine specific world. The Northstar V8 SC develops 595 Nm of torque at 3900 rpm, 168 Nm more than its naturally aspirated counterpart. Engine power is remarkable for its ability to provide 90 percent of its peak torque between 2200 and 6000 rpm. The Northstar V8 SC carries a six-speed automatic transmission.

The chassis of the STS-V has been developed at the Milford Road Course circuit from General Motors and the famous Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. It has tires (P255/45R18 front, P275/40R19 rear); also presents larger diameter brake rotor, the garrison areas and larger brake stirrups, greater stiffness stabilizer bars and the halls suspension and a quicker steering ratio.

Sporty look
Clearly, the STS-V is a member of the V-Series family thanks to a polished stainless steel grid that represents the Cadillac emblem embedded. A separator accentuates this appearance, like brake pipes integrated into the bottom of the front bumper. A specific design of the hood of the STS-V provides space for the supercharged V8 engine. Manufactured by compression molding of prepregs (SMC), the hood has a smooth appearance, sculpted and provides good torsional rigidity. The rear of the STS-V features a larger wing and placed farther back that provides more accurate pressure and integrates with the CHMSL and the crown and the Cadillac emblem. The polished dual exhaust pipes are the culmination of the appearance of the STS-V.

The large alloy wheels 10-spoke painted aluminum (18 x 8.5 in the front, 19 x 9.5 inches the rear) provide a good flow of cooling air and serve to demonstrate the power of high-performance braking STS-V with view of the handle 4-piston brake V-Series rotors and large Brembo 355/365 mm. The V-Series emblem appears in the stirrups. The STS-V is available in three exterior colors: Light Platinum, Raven Black, Stealth Gray.

Inside
The upper and lower sections of the instrument panel are lined with leather hand-grained precision. The STS-V is unique in Olive Ash Burl wood, which decorates the center of the dashboard, console side, and switch-plates of the four doors. Aluminum edges put the finishing touches on the instrument panel on the passenger side front, which also incorporates a multi-colored emblem V-Series

The wheel is completely lined in leather. In addition to the switches of the driver information center (DIC), the steering wheel is also equipped with an interface for cruise control. The standard equipment includes DVD navigation system and a Bose 5.1 Surround Sound. In addition, through the DIC can access a digital display of engine power.

More dynamic
The targets set by the Performance Division of General Motors included an accurate calibration of the chassis of the Cadillac STS-V, while maintaining the sophistication that today expects the buyer of a luxury vehicle. Engineers lowered the STS-V engine in 14 mm from the base position of STS V8 engine. This change also improved transmission angles despite shortening the drive shaft in two pieces. The low front chassis needed reinforcements optimized for increased lateral load in order to direct the torque, while the lower rear chassis supports a greater load torque and cornering stability. The engineers added reinforcements optimized mass differential mounting points and interfaces control arm.

A tubular front stabilizer bar diameter (36 mm) together with the increased level of elasticity manages the transfer of striker added weight resulting from the increased capacity of the braking force and cornering. Consequently, the rate of tubular rear stabilizer bar has been increased (25.4 mm) to balance the understeer of the vehicle. The rear elasticity levels have increased to reach a balanced driving feel.

Monotube dampers calibrated specifically handle the added weight of wheels and tires and make them disappear from road disturbances. Nivomat leveling system adjusts the ride height with load and provides a higher level of elasticity and cushioning when the load increases. The specific size of the bearing and the bearing increases the feeling of smooth transition between moderate and sporty driving.

Revised Address
A specific steering box faster 17,2:1 is included in the calibration of the chassis to increase the sensitivity and dynamism of the management but to use a box of ZF variable ratio steering, engineers have maintained stability at high speed evasion situations. The profile of the valve specific vehicle steering provides excellent response at high speed, while maintaining minimal effort for parking. It has been necessary to make additional changes in the profile to balance the front tires more aggressive. It also has incorporated a specific refrigerant management.

To improve steering precision, a tubular structure runs between the caps crash, under the hood and above the engine compartment. The hollow steel support, which is a common application in high performance sports cars, providing superior stability in the front of the STS-V and a more dynamic and steering precision.

To transfer power to the road, P275/40R19 rear tires mounted on aluminum alloy wheels of 9.5 inches. To reduce the compensation of the spindle on the front wheels and thus improving resistance to the direction induced by the field, and P255/45R18 front tires are mounted on alloy wheels of 8.5 inches.

The STS-V is equipped with Brembo vented rotors in the front brakes diameter of 355 millimeters and 32 millimeters wide and Brembo vented rotors in the rear brakes diameter of 365 millimeters and 28 millimeters wide. To select a specific material of the pads was necessary to balance the noise and wear characteristics.

Improved Stability Control
The control system of four-channel StabiliTrak chassis has been recalibrated for improved power and torque of the vehicle and provides an improved stability control, especially on surfaces with low grip (eg. On snow or ice). In addition, the system allows the driver to select between four modes ranging from four-wheel traction and stability control, traction control deactivated until and stability control activated and even both traction and stability controls off. With the increase in torque and the desire to constantly optimize performance during acceleration from low speed, using the software launch vehicle control (VLC) with a special combination of traction control, torque management and mitigation disturbance of the motor system. This logic and the assignment of priority to the developments of the system have led to improved performance and lower get a negative response to the driver.

The Cadillac STS-V has been designed and manufactured by the Division of General Motors Performance. None of the phases of engineering, design and assembly have been outsourced to other companies.
