Peugeot 308 RC Z

The Peugeot 308 RC Z is a foretaste of the future coupe version to be commercialized in 2009.

The vehicle was designed as light as possible through the use of numerous aluminum components, as the two arches that define the interior and exterior structure their style, too, the use of a polycarbonate rear windscreen and numerous body components in fiber carbon.

The body of the Peugeot 308 RC Z has a length of 4.276 m (same as the compact), a width of 1.840 m (25 mm more than the compact) and a height of only 1.320 m. The windshield is tinted, the carbon roof and rear window is tinted polycarbonate.

The particularity of the forms of the rear window required the use of polycarbonate instead of glass. The trunk space design takes into account the sliding of the air, offering one of the boot volume enough lift on the rear axle.

A central twin exhaust pipes is outside the rear shield. In this respect, the silencer is installed in horizontal position, allowing not only retain the spare wheel but also serve as aerodynamic diffuser.

The very specific metallic gray color is the result of an exclusive metallic particles comprising crushed.

Life on board
The Peugeot 308 RC Z recovers also the dashboard of the saloon. It is entirely trimmed with leather, with use of inserting pieces of chrome, aluminum or lacquer-black elements. In this spirit, a Bell & Ross clock placed in the center instrument panel, between two air vents, its typography perfectly combined with the bottom on the axis of the driver.

They also stress the front seats surround, polished aluminum alloy in the shutters, whose style is also specific for this conceptcar.

In the rear, the two additional seats, upholstered in leather, are folding. The volume in the back of the front seats is sufficient to accommodate a golf bag. Also, the maximum length of the trunk and slide can allow useful to a mountain bike.

218 hp turbo engine
The Peugeot 308 RC Z is led by a 1.6 liter THP engine inherited from the new range of engines designed and developed in collaboration between PSA Peugeot Citroën and BMW Group, it is the EP6DTS that equips the 207 RC, with an output of 128 kW (~ 175 bhp). This 1.6 liter THP, thanks to a calibration engine specially developed for the concept car, now produces a maximum power of 160 kW (~ 218 hp). It is characterized by a flexibility of use of its maximum torque of 280 Nm available from low speed (300 Nm torque obtained thanks to the overboost function). These values ensure remarkable responsiveness under all circumstances.

Its turbocharger innovative Twin-Scroll combines optimally, the exhaust gases to ensure maximum thrust on the turbine, while its system of direct injection high-pressure gas improves combustion and overall engine performance.

The engine is mated to a manual gearbox entirely new 6 speed. This group participates in the Peugeot 308 RC Z a synthesis effi cient compromise between performance and fuel consumption. Thus, its maximum speed of 235 km / h is attained in sixth gear and it takes only 7.0 s to go from 0 to 100 km / h. The acceleration is impressive: 7.5 s only in 5th gear from 80 to 120 km / h. Gasoline consumption is still, on the other hand, very reasonable with 6.7 litres/100 km in combined cycle, with an emission of just 160 g / km of CO2.

At the front suspension pivot is uncoupled, which employ a large extent, aluminum to contribute to overall lightening of the vehicle. The rear suspension, inheritance of the compact, consists of a torsion beam, two arms and an integral anti-roll bar. It has been specially considering the increasing magnitude of the tracks. Thus, the increase of the track, front and rear, 59 mm above the compact.

The braking is done in the front, through large-diameter ventilated discs (360 mm) and four-piston stirrups. The bi-aluminum wheels 19-inch material are provided with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 245/40 R19.

Security
Even within the framework of a unique model, Peugeot teams strive to reach the limit of your dreams and leave nothing to chance. Security was also the object of most attention.

Within the safety equipment highlights the warning system involuntary change lanes (sharpening) and the directional bi-xenon headlights, equipment inherited the 308 sedan.

Similarly, the chapter of secondary safety, the Peugeot 308 RC Z recovers structure elements of the series, with the beginning of the 3-way efforts forward, studied at the level of rigidity or deformation programmed to absorb maximum impact.

Finally, the 'Peugeot Urgence ", connected to the vehicle's RT4 telematics system, guarantees the safety tertiary locating the vehicle and firing sending the appropriate support if necessary.
