Saab 9-5 Saloon

Making its public debut next month at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, the new Saab 9-5 Sedan today marks the beginning of a new era for the Saab brand. Its launch is planned for 2010.

Recall that the Swedish firm was recently acquired by Koenigsegg Group.Saab Automobile's Managing Director and Christian von Koenigsegg, Koenigsegg founder.

The design of the Saab 9-5 is based on the prototype that premiered Aero X. In addition, the new trend forward design of the Swedish brand in its upcoming models.

Technically it is a model developed based on the Vauxhall Insignia (shared platform technology, some engines and various components of its interior).

Among the new features of their equipment, include the projection system of information on the windshield (Head - Up Display) (this solution is present in other models of market-Citroën C5 and the BMW M5, among others), the adaptive lighting (lights Bi-Xenon Smart Smart Beam), the adaptive control of the cruise, the Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis with continuous damping control in real time (the same system that equips the Vauxhall Insignia), the access system and boot without key (the 9-5 is the first Saab model that opens this solution), the triple-zone climate control intelligent, dynamic assistant parking, electric parking brake (is actuated by a button) and all-wheel drive system Saab XWD with electronically controlled limited slip differential (ELSD) in the rear axle.

Inside
Compared to its predecessor, legroom and shoulder width have grown for both front and back. The choice of materials, finish and tactile quality of controls is also better than its predecessor.

Every control of the driving position are oriented to the driver. All instruments, including projector information on the windshield (Head - Up Display) option, are mainly in the characteristic bright green Saab. The launch control the car, one button start / stop, is placed between the front seats, next to the gear lever.

Optionally, the Saab 9-5 can have audio equipment brand harman / kardon "high-end surround sound and a navigation system with 8-inch touch screen and hard disk storage for maps and 10 GB capacity for music files. The center console allows you to save and connect various portable devices via USB and Aux, and a power supply of 12 V.

Rear seat passengers can access their own audio or watch a DVD. The entertainment unit back seat in the rear of the center console houses the audio controls while the foldable screens are installed in the front seat backs. They have wired or wireless headset for listening to music or watching movies. The entertainment unit also includes two rear-seat vents and independent temperature control for the rear, in addition to dual zone climate control in the front.

The Saab 9-5 is available in three finishes: Linear, Vector and Aero

Engines
At the time of the launch, engine choices include a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine with 160 hp with CO2 emissions of only 139 gm / km and a 2.0 turbo petrol engine of 220 hp. Range topping, engine 2.8-liter turbo V6 that generates 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, will be offered exclusively with all-wheel drive Saab XWD.

Shortly after launching the Saab 9-5 is available with a turbocharged petrol engine of 1.6 liters and 180 hp, plus a 2.0-liter BioPower engine capable of running on bioethanol E85. All are six-speed transmissions.

The Saab 9-5 1.6-liter turbo is less potent version of the full range. It has a maximum power of 180 hp at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 230 Nm at 2,200 rpm. Its top speed of 220 km / h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.5 seconds in fifth gear and recovered 80 to 120 km / h in 10.8 seconds. Its average consumption is 7.6 liters and makes 179 g / km of CO2. This engine is only available with 6-speed manual gearbox and front wheel drive.

The Saab 9-5 2.0-liter turbo engine is the middle of the range of gasoline. It is the version that has more combinations because it can be associated with two types of change (manual / / automatic) and traction (front / / total) and can use two types of fuel (petrol / / E85 ethanol). This version has a maximum power of 220 hp at 5,300 rpm and maximum torque of 350 Nm at 2,500 rpm. This engine be associated with a system of front-or all (both available with manual or six-speed automatic). Making an assessment between consumer benefits and offering every possible combination that offers this engine in our opinion the most interesting may be the six-speed manual version with front wheel drive. Its top speed of 240 km / h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.9 seconds in fifth gear and recovered 80 to 120 km / h in 10.6 seconds (AWD version stops the chronometer in 9.8 seconds). Its average consumption is 8.4 liters emits 198 g / km of CO2.

The Saab 9-5 2.8-liter Turbo is the most powerful version of the full range. It has a maximum power of 300 hp at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 400 Nm at 2,000 rpm. It reaches a top speed of 250 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds. Its average consumption is 11.4 liters and emits 269 g / km of CO2. This engine is only available with 6-speed automatic and AWD.

The Saab 9-5 TiD 2.0 liters is the only diesel engine available in the range, at least in the initial design life. It has a maximum power of 160 hp at 4,000 rpm and maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Its top speed of 215 km / h (210 with automatic transmission) and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.1 seconds. Its average consumption is 5.3 liters (6.8 liters with the automatic gearbox) and emits 139 g / km of CO2 (179 with automatic gearbox). This engine is only available with two types of change (manual / / automatic) and a front-wheel drive system.

Frame
The Saab 9-5 shares a platform with the Opel Insignia, the suspension is McPherson strut front and rear triangles is superimposed. From factory suspension mount two different schemes, depending on engine power, and both are available with sports chassis set-up. Moreover, the range provides an adaptive chassis (known commercially as "Saab DriveSense"). This system varies the hardness of the suspensions, the assistance of management and operation of the change, provided the latter is automatic.

The new 9-5 is, according to Saab, the most technically advanced model that has never produced the Swedish brand. Plant will be built at Saab's parent Trollhättan (Sweden), which has carried out its design and most of its development.
