Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept is the first hybrid with four-wheel drive (AWD), boxer engine and automatic transmission. Its body measures 4,630 mm long, 1,890 wide and 1,420 mm high. The body has two doors that open style "gull wings". The space left is so wide that you can access both the front seats and the rear.
The interior, with four independent seats, has a dash that moves up and down, to make driving easier for the driver, according to the conditions.
2.0-liter boxer engine
The drive system consists of a 2.0-liter Turbo Boxer engine equipped with gasoline direct injection system. Along with this engine, the hybrid system includes two electric motors.
At normal speeds, the front engine (has a power of 20kW) is put into operation, along with the gasoline engine. In moments of acceleration, the rear electric motor assists the gasoline engine. Later, when accelerating uphill, the front engine even more power applied to the front axle.
The hybrid drive system is coupled to a continuously variable automatic transmission CVT (Subaru calls it Lineartronic)
Tourer Subaru Hybrid Concept has an automatic engine stop (this device makes the engine stops running when the car is stopped).
The batteries that feed the electric motors are lithium-ion high-performance (these batteries are based on the prototype that came with the Subaru ESTELLA Electric). These batteries are manufactured and developed by Fuji Heavy Industries.
