The Mazda3 MPS Range 2009 is the sportiest model range. It has a direct injection turbo engine that delivers maximum power of 260 hp. Traction is front and has a six-speed manual gearbox. The MPS is a model equivalent to a Seat Leon Cupra (both have five-door body and turbo engine of similar power).
The body has a specific front and rear bumpers. The front grille and lower bumper sections share the same metallic black finish. These elements are framed by cylindrical bi-xenon headlights and round fog lamps. The hood has a new air intake in the center to the intercooler.
In the back stands a large spoiler at the top of the tailgate and twin exhaust pipes. The optical lens LED rear inner lead which produces a feeling of greater transparency with the lights off.
The Mazda3 MPS Range 2009 alloy wheels mounted about 18 inches (18 x 7.5 J) designed exclusively for this model. The tires have the same design as the Mazda RX-8.
Semi-bucket front seats
Its interior has details differentiating the rest of the range. The tachometer MPS wears a red logo and a needle that travels an arc of 260 degrees, compared to 190, the Mazda3 range. The instrument panel of the new MPS also has an LED indicator of turbo pressure point between the two main clocks.
The Mazda3 MPS Range 2009 is semi-bucket front seats. The front profile of the seats has been lengthened to better suit the legs. It also has more length to the back to provide more support. The seat upholstery combines a unique base graphics and black with red stitching.
The black is the color that predominates in the interior while the seats are trimmed in red graphics. The seats, steering wheel, door panels, shift lever and the center armrest are embroidered with red stitching.
260 hp turbo engine
Like the current MPS, the new supercharged inherits gasolinaZR DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) Turbo four-cylinder 2.3-liter gasoline direct injection located in a transverse position. It has a maximum power of 260 hp at 5,500 rpm with maximum torque of 38.7 Nm at 3,000 rpm. Has an output of 115 hp per liter displacement. DISI This unit develops its maximum torque of 380 Nm at 3,000 rpm. From rest and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.1 seconds. It has a top speed of 250 km / h. The change is a six-speed manual.
Its compression ratio of 9.5:1, which is relatively high for a turbocharged engine. Its high pressure injectors, working at 115 bars, allow you to obtain a consumption of 13.5 liters in the city, 7.5 highway and 9.7 liters in gallons of gasoline per 100km combined cycle.
By matching the direct injection with a turbocharger ensures that the engine reaches performance comparable to a larger displacement engine. It has achieved a perfect balance between lightness and rigidity through the use of high strength steel (notably the use of steel in 1480 MPa strength).
The latent heat of vaporization that occurs in the engine when pulverized fuel is injected directly into a cylinder at pressures up to 11.5 MPa reduces the temperature of the combustion chamber (cooling effect inside the cylinder) and improves efficiency the burden of fuel-air mixture. Compared with turbocharged engines that inject fuel through the normal intake ports, this technique increases the torque of the new Mazda3 MPS by about 10% at 3000 rpm. This will get a flat curve of torque delivery, with an enormous power controllable turbocharger using a fixed pitch. The intercooler has the same size as the previous model, but the new air intake mounted on the hood provides a fresh air supply ensures stable operation of refrigeration.
It has optimized the rigidity of the left and right transmission to minimize the influence of the pair in the address. The various measures adopted to optimize the engine helps the car better traction. Specifically, it has added more control of the intake air volume and overfeeding, thus avoiding peak torque and you get a smooth and linear delivery, and steering angles most appropriate in all gears.
Optimized aerodynamics has helped reduce the fuel consumption of 9.7 litres/100 km from the previous model to 9.2 litres/100 km on the new Mazda3 MPS Range 2009. Another innovation is the installation under the floor of nanotechnology first catalyst simple and rapid reaction that is mounted on a car. This item is in a cleaner emissions and facilitates compliance Euro V (emits 217 g / km CO2).
Six-speed manual transmission
Mazda3 MPS Transmission Range 2009 is characterized by its compact three-axle which keeps the same overall length than a five-speed manual gearbox. It uses a wide gear ratios to fully exploit that allows the delivery of torque band. The sixth gear has a longer development to reduce noise and fuel consumption. All speeds have a gear ratio that favors higher speeds than the previous model.
The triple-cone synchronizers for first, second and third gears and double cone synchronizer for fourth gear optimize the strength to make changes and cuts in routes. Furthermore, the transmission uses a low viscosity oil that greatly reduces the effort needed to shift gears with the engine cold.
Sports suspension
Based on the body of the Mazda3 5-door, the new version adds reinforcements MPS squadrons in front of the engine cover to strengthen the bonds between the rear suspension towers and the ground plate, furthermore the tunnel element is large.
Have been modified coefficients of the coil springs in both the MacPherson strut front suspension and multilink rear suspension. The stabilizer is thicker and shock absorbers are strongest.
The Mazda3 MPS Range 2009 series equipped with Dunlop 225/40R18 tires (they are wider than the previous model).
Now the Mazda3 MPS Range 2009 uses three caps Mounting the wheel very stiff, rather than the two that were used in the previous model. The system also offers an electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPAS) control that adjusts depending on vehicle speed and steering angle. Now the direction is softer at low speeds and feels firmer at high speeds. The location is more precise and direct, with only 2.7 turns lock to lock steering wheel.
Disc brakes 320 mm ventilated front and rear solid discs of 280 mm combined with a brake booster 8 +9 inch tandem master cylinder and a 1 inch diameter, to conduct powerful and stable braking. The electronic braking assistance replaces the old mechanical system. In addition, the ABS and DSC to all four wheels are included as standard features.
The development of the chassis has been carried out at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
Mazda sold 31,100 units the previous MPS worldwide, a third of them in America. One in five Mazda3 MPS has been registered in Europe, the second largest market in sales volume, with a total of 6,300 units. The main European markets earlier MPS were the United Kingdom and Germany, representing one third of total sales in Europe, followed by Switzerland and Spain.
The new Mazda3 MPS is part of the sport compact segment C. This market segment grew steadily until 2008, the year in which sales fell for the first time since 2004 following the economic recession that began to be felt later this year. However, the Mazda3 MPS offered commercially successful in 2007 and 2008, from a market share of 0% to occupy 4.5% of the segment in late 2008.
