The Toyota iQ is a four-seater urban vehicle (measuring less than 3 meters). It is similar to the Citroen C1, Peugeot 107, Volkswagen Fox, Renault Twingo and Fiat Panda. It is available with two petrol engines of 68 and 99 hp.The iQ is a more expensive car than a Toyota Aygo (which is a similar pattern, although 40 cmm longer) and a Toyota Yaris (76 cm longer).
The Range 2009 Toyota iQ measures just 2985 mm long, 1,500 mm high and 1,680 mm wide. It is very striking the long wheelbase (2,000 mm measured). It rata basis according to the dimensions. To achieve that battle, the overhangs are very short (530 mm in the front and 455 mm in back).
The Range 2009 Toyota iQ is manufactured on a new platform, with McPherson front suspension and a torsion beam rear of new development. The address is electric and has a minimum turning radius of 3.9 meters and its hardness varies depending on the speed.
Two petrol engines
Initially, the Toyota iQ will be available with two petrol engines (1.0 liter VVT-i with 68 hp and 1.3 VVT-i 99 HP). For later, it is likely that the range is supplemented by a 1.4 liters turbo-diesel engine D-4D 90 HP. All models meet the Euro IV emissions standards.
Toyota engineers have worked to provide low levels of noise, drag, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, this will have worked on aerodynamics and acoustic insulation. The body has a drag coefficient of 0.30 CX (a good thing if one takes into account the height of the body).
Toyota has also optimized the weight of the iQ. For this we have tried to reduce the weight of almost every piece. The weight of the rear suspension has been reduced by 3.5 kg and the exhaust system only weighs 6 kg.
The internal length from the rear of the instrument panel to the waist level of the rear seats is 1,238 mm.
The front passenger seat can slide forward so that there is enough leg room to accommodate three adults of 1.90 m and a child or luggage. The two rear seats can be folded to increase luggage carrying capacity up to 238 liters (VDA) or 32 liters with the two rear seats raised.
The carrier is studied to maximize space. For this, the iQ has the following solutions: The differential is mounted in the front to create more space and a shorter overhangs l possible the address has a central link for some obtemer overhangs shorter fuel tank is flat and is located under the floor, the backs of the front seats have a thickness of 40 mm frees space for rear passengers, the unit heating and air-conditioning takes up less space (its total size was reduced by 20% thanks to smaller fan, better air flow stream inside the unit and a new type of pollen filter more compact) and the dashboard has an asymmetrical design that offers greater breadth to the passenger.
Two trim levels
The basic finish "iQ" Series offers the following elements: steering wheel and leather-clad hand, manual air conditioning, alloy wheels, 15'', power outside mirrors to match the body color, electric windows and radio with CD .
The version "iQ2" offers the following standard features: automatic climate control (it has a single remote to control all functions). The Smart Entry System opens the doors unlocked the driver and passenger and luggage compartment, and combines with a button to start the engine, sensors and light rain, as well as heated folding exterior mirrors and a mirror electrochromatic inside. Furthermore, this finish, headlamps feature smoked glass exterior and bi-halogen bulbs high intensity. It has front fog lamps and alloy wheels with 15''chrome finish. The design of taillights is also changed, thanks to a touch of chrome.
Optionally you can purchase for 750 € the Comfort Pack (includes fabric and leather upholstery, heated front seats and heated exterior mirrors), touch screen navigation, bluetooth stereo and USB port for 900 €, Leather upholstery (availability iQ2) for 500 € and metallic paint for 300 €.
All 12 series range equipped with airbags. There are two front airbags for driver and passenger, the latter is specially adapted with a dual chamber structure with low pressure inflator to fill the space between the passenger and the dashboard.
Production of the new iQ is made in the Takaoka plant in Japan. The iQ was released in Japan in November 2008, and throughout Europe during 2009. Currently, Toyota plans to produce about 100,000 units a full year, 80% of which were sold on the European continent. The iQ is manufactured on a brand new platform.
